Prof. Chang-Min Yu accepts position as Assistant Professor at National Taiwan University

He will join the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in the fall of 2020.

It is with great excitement that we announce that Professor Chang-Min Yu (PhD, University of Iowa, 2019) will be returning to his alma mater, National Taiwan University, as Assistant Professor in the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures in the fall of 2020.

Professor Yu joined the Film and Media Studies Program as Lecturer in the fall of 2019. He has taught numerous courses for the program, including Film Theory, History of World Cinema, and Sinophone Cinemas. Students have come to appreciate his passion for cinema, his humor, and his devotion to critical theory. “The Film and Media Studies Program is a model of sincere collegiality, open-minded pedagogy, high-quality research, and true leadership,” Professor Yu stated in a message to the FMS website. “I am truly grateful for the mentorship I have received at WashU.”

At National Taiwan University, he will teach Introduction to Film Studies, History of World Cinema, and other courses. He hopes to establish, from the ground up, a solid Film and Media Studies curriculum for students. He also hopes that cinema will foster the development of interdisciplinary conversations in his new department.

In terms of research, he is now preparing a book manuscript, tentatively entitled Corporeal Modernism, which considers the confounding three-body problem in film studies and tracks the vicissitudes of body cinema in the international context. Other articles in preparation include “Hou Hsiao-Hsien in Contention” and “Devotion (2019), Winnie the Pooh, and Chairman Xi.”

Congratulations to Professor Yu! We are excited for this new chapter in his career!
